Plenty of interest in Cliff Railway

ESTATE agents tasked with selling the historic Bridgnorth Cliff Railway say there has been plenty of interest from potential buyers.

Knight Frank Estate Agents said the online listing of the railway had already received more than 600 hits in three weeks since it was put up for sale.

Fifty information packs have also been sent out by request to people expressing an interest in buying the railway.

Rail operators Allan and Jean Reynolds are selling all the shares in the Bridgnorth Castle Hill Railway Company, which includes the historic Cliff Railway. They are retiring after 15 years.

A spokeswoman for the agents said they had never sold anything like the railway before and had been surprised by the amount of interest shown.

She said: “Quite a few people who have called have simply wanted to find out more about the railway because they are enthusiasts.

“It will be an unusual sale because what is on offer is very unique. The closing date for bids is June 3.”

The asking price of £700,000 to £800,000 includes the railway, a guest house, a tearoom and a flat. The railway employs 14 staff.
