AN Albrighton road closed since last Monday after a huge hole appeared in it was due to reopen this afternoon.
Severn Trent Water engineers were working around the clock to repair the damage along the A464 road at the junction with Patshull Road, after a burst water pipe caused the road to collapse.
A two-tonne truck plunged into the gap, but luckily Carl and Chris Nedic were able to leap from their new £24,000 vehicle just seconds before the road surface dramatically collapsed, pitching the vehicle nose-first into the ground.
Albrighton Parish Council chairman David Beechey said: “The hole in the road caused some inconvenience to motorists who had to be diverted and to local residents who experienced a shortage of water for a short while.
“Severn Trent acted promptly to deal with the problem.”
