THE Bridgnorth Music and Arts Festival exploded into action over the Bank Holiday weekend as performers brought the High Street to a standstill. Alongside the annual food fair and a host of literary and arts events, bands rocked the main stage on Sunday and the Quayside on Monday, as crowds enjoyed the late summer sun.
Spokesperson Kev Adams said: “Right from the off we’ve been spoilt for choice with more events taking place than any one person can visit.
“As well as many new arts and literary events for 2010 our music programme has been busier than ever with pubs and venues around the town reporting a great turnout.
“We’ve been really pleased to give plenty of local musicians a chance to perform in front of their home crowds too, with more than one young local band making their debut.”
White Lion landlady Sam Hayes, who hosted a number of events, said: “We had a great time in High Street on Saturday – so many people turned out to see the bands and the street fair.
“This festival is really on the map of Shropshire and I can’t wait until Saturday to go to the Castle Grounds and enjoy more live music.”
enny Bone, who organised many of the arts events, the designer maker fair and the family fun day in the Castle Grounds, said: “The festival included a preview of Gallery Bridgnorth.
“Examples of participating artists’ work were displayed throughout Bambers Restaurant, transforming it into a gallery for the duration of the festival.”
The launch party raised over £200 for the festival’s chosen charities, Bridgnorth Hospital’s League of Friends and Macmillan Cancer Support.
The festival runs until Sunday (September 5) with a range of arts and literary events still lined up across the town. For a full programme visit www.bridgnorthmusicfest.com
