SIXTH formers throughout the Bridgnorth area were celebrating ‘fantastic’ A-level results yesterday morning. A new joint partnership between the Endowed and
Oldbury Wells schools was hailed a huge success while pupils at William Brookes in Much Wenlock were praised for achieving outstanding results despite the disruption of moving premises during their final year.
And Idsall School in Shifnal, which achieved 25 per cent A* to B grades, saw the majority of its students get into their first choice universities.
Pressure for university places this year left more students nervously waiting for news on clearing than in previous years.
The Bridgnorth Sixth Form Partnership was formed last year and both headteachers said they were delighted with the first set of cumulative results. “We are so pleased with the exceptional results and would like to congratulate students and staff alike,” said Endowed School headteacher Phil Loveday.
Sarah Godden, Oldbury Wells headteacher, said she was delighted the partnership had built on the strengths of the two schools, which saw 40 per cent of all passes being A* to B grades.
Stand out students were: Christina Baker, three A* and two As; Daniel Richards, four A* and one A; Tim Daly, three A* and one B; Phil West, two A*, three As and one B; Tom Hammond, one A* and four As; Anna Armstrong, one A* and four As.
William Brookes headteacher Penny Cooper said there had been some very impressive performances with around 48 per cent achieving A* to B grades.
“We had two anxieties this year: whether the building change would have an impact and the uncertainty surrounding university places,” she said. “As far as university entrances are concerned the majority got places, but the number trying to get in through clearing has risen.”
Stand out performers were Natasha Gibbs, one A* and four As; Ian Berryman, one A* and three As; Laura Whitehouse, one A*, three As and one B.
Idsall headteacher Tony Parker said the majority of students gained their predicted grades and got into their first choice universities.
