Police ’sex sites’ inquiry

POLICE in Bridgnorth were “shocked” to learn that public toilets in the town are being advertised on the internet as gay sex meeting places.

Last week, The Journal revealed that toilets on Innage Lane car park and on the corner of Hospital Street and St John’s Street were featured on a website aimed at gay men looking for casual liaisons, along with a lay-by on the A454.

Sergeant Bob Matthews, of Bridgnorth Police, said that they had been aware of an ongoing problem on the A454, but they had not had any reported problems with the toilets.

“We do know about the lay-by, and we have been working closely with the Terrance Higgins Trust for the past 18 months to solve the problem,” he said.

“It was a very popular site but we believe that we have got control of the problem now. We have had no reports about the toilets and it was quite a shock to us.

“We will be looking into the situation. If there is a problem we will look at how we can rectify it and will carry out law enforcement where necessary.”
