Worfield 283-4 beat Lilleshall 88
SOME excellent individual performances saw Worfield thrash Lilleshall and then hear the sweet news that closest challengers Wroxeter had lost.
An all new Worfield opening partnership made a good start getting to 48 before Iain Seedhouse fell for 22. Fellow opener Tim Perry went on to make an excellent 61. When Perry was the third man out the home side had reached 124 with 20 overs remaining.
Experienced Worfield duo Matt Turner (42) and Steve McMahon put together a superb 113 run partnership. New vice captain McMahon played surely one of his best innings for Worfield, hitting an unbeaten 81 off 68 balls with nine fours and two sixes.
Skipper Gareth Lanchbury hit 20 from 12 balls to allow the home side to post an imposing 283-4 from their 50 overs.
Worfield’s bowling attack has been firing on all cylinders this season and their talisman Mani Singh set the tone with a wicket in his opening over and when Lanchbury did the same in his, the visitors were two down without a run on the board.
Singh then picked up further wickets in his third, fourth and sixth overs and with a further one from Lanchbury, Lilleshall were left on 22-6 after 11 overs.
Singh picked up a well deserved fifth wicket to finish with impressive figures of 5-37 and it was left to Joe Arnold to pick up the last two wickets as the visitors were bowled out for 88 in the 23rd over.
