A vibrant Bridgnorth group which is making welcome inroads into giving the town a tourism boost has revealed that a queue of organisations want to use the The Quayside for entertainment.
Brian Davies, co-ordinator for the Bridgnorth Town Centre Management Partnership, said they were working with the town council in the hope that it could be achieved.
“The cost of insurance and supervised staffing mean that sadly organisations are unable to do things on their own,” he explained.
“It can cost £200 a day for public liability insurance, so we are looking for a solution by bringing in larger scale operations that can offer far better insurance rates.”
Mr Davies also revealed that the TCMP was liaising with the council over the possibility of creating six poster sites in a bid to cut the indiscriminate fly-posting.
The TCMP now has a number of interpretation boards and signs around the town, through the ‘Better Welcome Market Town’ initiative.
“We have just supplied copies of a new calendar of events in the town for the tourist information centre,” said Mr Davies.
He confirmed that the TCMP has received no funding from the Government regional development agency, Advantage West Midlands, which is due to be abolished, possibly in 2012.
“We have been set up for two years but they have had no impact on our projects. We were aware that something was likely to happen with Advantage West Midlands earlier this year when their budget was cut by a third.”
Mr Davies said the abolition of the agency would mean that the ability for Shropshire Council to provide finance would diminish.
He pointed that the TCMP executive board would be very much involved in going to the unitary authority and elsewhere to try to access funds.
“We hope ultimately that the town will pull together, with groups putting aside any differences and resolve some of the issues that will come out of the town plan,” he added.
