Captain’s Day victory for Neil

EIGHTEEN handicap player Neil Foxall hit the first shot of the day at 6.30am and went onto win the Captain’s Prize at Bridgnorth Golf Club on Saturday with the excellent score of 44 points.

A total of 160 golfers took part over a nine-hour period.

At the presentations in the evening Neil thanked captain Robert Boersma on behalf of all members for what had been an excellent day.

The other results were as follows:-

Nearest the pin at 16th hole: Mike Leszczynski; longest drive at the fourth: Simon Butler; best team: Richard Speke, Steve Hewitt and Glyn McKenna with 114 points; past captain’s prize: Geoff Moor 37 points; gross prize: Darren Lewis, 73 gross.

Divisional scores - one:- Glyn McKenna (handicap 5) 40 points, 2 Ross Mackay (4) 39, 3 Steve Fitzpatrick (5) 38. Two:- 1 Nigel Parkin (14) 39, 2 Anthony Carr (16) 39, 3 Phil Donnelly (15) 37. Three:- 1 Tim Wright (20) 42, 2 Paul Hughes (19) 42, 3 Andrew Pedley (20) 39.

WORFIELD Golf Club’s mens’ section competed in the June Stableford when results were as follows:-

Division one: 1 M Fisher 41 points, 2 B Green 39, 3 J Avey 39; division two: 1 J Fletcher 41, 2 E Golden 41, 3 M Taylor 40; division three: 1 T Williams 42, 2 S North 41, 3 G Rozga 40.

RICHARD Chandler is to become the first golfer to stay on as captain at the CLEOBURY MORTIMER for a third successive year.

Club spokesman David Pain said that Chandler had made his announcement at  the Captain’s Cup on Saturday and that all members were delighted.

The competition was a huge success with 72 players taking part on a course which was in fantastic condition.The winner on countback was Gerry Redmond who carded a 67 nett to take the title from Alan Walker.

Redmond had finished second twice in the last two years, but went one better this time to take home the trophy. John Swithenby, Tom Wright and Dave Blount finished third, fourth and fifth respectively.

The scores were as follows:- 1 Gerry Redmond nett 67, gross 81; 2 Alan Walker 67, 88; 3 John Swithenby 68, 78; 3 Tom Wright 68, 74 and 5 Dave Blount 68, 87.

The ladies’competition was won by Anne Simpson with the fantastic score of 33 points. The Captain’s Par Three Challenge was won Tom Pain who shot a one-under par gross with a birdie on the last hole, to pip his brother Sam Pain on countback.
