BRIDGNORTH table tennis is on the crest of a wave with local players grabbing the top two places in the 2010 county ranking list.
Shropshire champion Billy Pegg, 22, who recently won the prestigious Elite hard bat competition, is at number one with 144 points.
Pegg, who was ranked third in the top 20 last year, is a place higher than his Bridgnorth colleague, Joe Hurdley, also 22, who drops from first to second with 100 ranking points.
Two more Bridgnorth players are in the list – Mike Dudley who climbs from 18th to ninth with 57 points and Bridgnorth A captain and Telford League chairman Terry Ridgway, who goes up from 19th to equal 14th with 35 points.
“It caps a tremendous season,” said Ridgway, whose Bridgnorth A team have already celebrated winning the Telford League first division title for the third year running.
And there has been more joy for Bridgnorth as the B side beat off the challenge of Highley A in the final of the League’s handicap competition.
The Bridgnorth club meets at Oldbury Wells School (West hall) for practice sessions on Wednesday evenings and new members are always welcome. League matches are held on Thursday evenings.
