HEAVY metal legend Ken Downing is throwing open the grounds of his Bridgnorth mansion for a charity golf tournament after the completion of an 18-hole course.
The Judas Priest guitarist hosts the Lords Taverners at Astbury Hall in September. It will be the first time the full course has been open to the public.
The veteran rocker built the golf venue as an investment and has planning permission for 14 holiday lodges and eight three-bedroom barn conversions.
Golfers will be able to buy the bespoke properties and have them designed to their own taste.
Former ELO and Move drummer Bev Bevan, cricketer Neal Radford and comedian Jasper Carrot have been invited to play at the charity event on September 15.
The Lords Taverners, a youth cricket and disability sports charity, held an inaugural tournament at the 300-acre Astbury site last year after nine holes were completed.
West Bromwich-born KK, as he is known to fans, developed a passion for the sport as a way of filling in time on tour.
He has since played on some of the best courses in the world and says the Astbury Hall course has been built with these in mind.
“I haven’t cut corners. I’m aiming at golfers who are passionate about the game and appreciate five-star golf and a five-star clubhouse,” he said.
