‘Nuisance’ dogs seized

POLICE and Shropshire Council officers have removed 27 dogs from the home of a Billingsley man who was fined £14,000 last month for failing to prevent them barking constantly over a three-year period.

They visited Dennis Haycox’s property at Lincoln Fields on Tuesday (May 18) to serve him with a warrant that allowed them to seize the dogs that have continued to cause a noise nuisance since the court case.

The dogs were removed by council dog handlers and taken to a safe environment in six dog vans and will now be looked after pending any further action.

“This case helps us to reinforce that failure to comply with an order to stop causing a noise nuisance is a criminal offence and the council will always aim to take action against those who fail to comply with the law,” said Councillor Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s cabinet member for economy and waste.

Haycox, 67, had been ordered by Mr Geoff Bailey, presiding magistrate at Telford on April 19, to pay a total of £14,584.59, amounting to £2,000 for each charge plus costs, within 14 days.

The court heard how Haycox had made the lives of neighbours unbearable.

Haycox said after the court session, which he did not attend, that he already owed £40,000 to the bank and did not know how the court expected him to pay.
