BRIDGNORTH area residents are being given the chance to have their say about proposals for location and scale of development in the district over the next 15 years. Shropshire Council is holding a series of drop-in consultation events about the draft stage of a new planning document called the ‘Site Allocations and Management of Development’ (SAMDev) Development Plan.
The consultation event at Bridgnorth, when people are invited to give comments, will be at the Castle Hall on Monday May 24 (4.30-8pm). There will also be a drop-in session at Much Wenlock’s Priory Hall the following day (4-7.30pm).
Comments can be made until June 25 and the consultation document can also be found on the council’s website at www.shropshire.gov.uk/planning.nsf, as well at all libraries, the council’s customer service points and at each of the council’s area headquarters, which at Bridgnorth is at Westgate.
“When adopted, the plan will allocate sites for residential and commercial development across Shropshire up to 2026,” said a council spokesman. “The council is urging people to have a look at what is being proposed for their area and to ensure they make their views known.
“The consultation is asking for views on a number of important issues, including the amount of development Shropshire Council should be planning for the market towns, including Bridgnorth and Much Wenlock. It also seeks views on which rural settlements the council should be identifying as areas for sustainable growth and which sites the council should be allocating for development,” he explained.
“This consultation offers people a great opportunity to see what development is planned for their area in the years ahead and to tell us what they think,” said Councillor Martin Taylor-Smith, the council’s cabinet member for strategic planning and transport.
“I would like to thank all who have submitted comments so far and those who have attended one of the consultation events. However, I urge everyone who hasn’t yet done so to have a look at the plans for their area and to let us have their views and comments,” he added.
