Changes at top for Town

BRIDGNORTH Town FC is looking for a new chairman after club stalwart Eric Eagles decided to step down for personal reasons. Mr Eagles, who had just completed his sixth year at the helm, has been involved with the club as a parent, member, committee member and then chairman for over 20 years.

But the club has a new manager in former professional footballer Lee Mills, who comes straight in from Shifnal United. In a career spanning 14 years Mills made 293 appearances in the Football League, scoring 86 goals.

His career started at Wolverhampton Wanderers and he went on to play for seven professional clubs. Arguably his most successful period came at Port Vale and Bradford City in the late 1990s, when Paul Jewell signed him for a then club record of £1 million.

A committee spokesperson said: “This is a fantastic appointment for our club and to have a person with Lee’s experience is priceless. We are hoping to see our young talent develop under the guidance of a former professional footballer and Uefa license holder.

“The club has been in discussions recently and has put in place a new development plan allowing for financial restructuring to take place. The committee felt Lee was the best candidate to spearhead our development plan in relation to our football ethos.

“We would like to thank Andy Marlowe, Kevin Thompson and Simon Marlowe for their extensive efforts over the previous years. They have been an integral part of discussing our development plan and have left a legacy.”

As well as needing a new chairman the club is also looking for committee members to help with the running of the club, social club and match preparations.

The club’s AGM is also being held on June 9, from 8pm. For more information call 07870546726.
