Film star at town’s festival

ORGANISERS of this year’s Bridgnorth Music and Arts Festival have pulled off a major coup by attracting a top Hollywood actress to the town.

Elizabeth McGovern, who earned an Academy award nomination for her role in Ragtime, will be on stage at the Falcon Hotel with her band Sadie and the Hotheads on September 3.

elizabeth.jpgSimon Golding, who is organising the arts side of the festival, said her performance would be a “massive boost” to the programme.

“I have been arranging a celebrity charity auction to raise money for our chosen charities this year and contacted certain people in the entertainment industry who I have either worked with in the past or have greatly admired,” he explained.

“I contacted Elizabeth for a piece of memorabilia to auction off and was elated when she got back in touch with me and said she wanted to

perform with her band.

“I watched Elizabeth, mesmerised, in the powerful classic Once Upon A Time in America, playing Robert De Niro’s love interest.

“When I listened to her music as a singer-songwriter and playing acoustic guitar with her band, I realised what an accomplished musician she is. It is even more incredible that Elizabeth and the band are not charging a fee to perform, which will help raise much-needed funds for our chosen charities,”  added Simon.

Elizabeth, 49, has played opposite the likes of Brad Pitt, Michael Caine, her ex-fiancé Sean Penn, Keanu Reeves, Dudley Moore and Alec Guinness.

Her latest film roles, both released this year, were the blockbuster Clash of the Titans and the controversial movie Kick-Ass. She made her debut as a folk music guitarist in 2008.
