MUSIC lovers are already looking forward to the 17th English Haydn Festival in Bridgnorth in June. A fascinating array of the music of Joseph Haydn and his contemporaries will mainly be performed in the town’s St Leonard’s Church.
A festival marquee will be set up outside the church on each day with buffet meals (£17.75) on offer with wines and soft drinks provided by Classic Wines.
The six-day concert programme is as follows:-
Tuesday, June 8, 10.45am: St Leonard’s Church, schools’ concert (18th century period chamber orchestra performing for 45 minutes).
Wednesday, June 9, 7.30pm: St Leonard’s, grand opening concert (English Haydn Orchestra on period instruments, conductor Anthony Halstead; clarinet soloist Colin Lawson).
Thursday, June 10, 1pm: St Leonard’s, lunchtime concert (The Salomon String Quartet) and 7.30pm: St Leonard’s, The London Serenade.
Friday, June 11, 1pm: St Mary’s, lunchtime concert (The Salomon String Quartet) and 7.30pm: The London Connection (English Haydn Orchestra on period instruments).
Saturday, June 12, 10.30am: Acton Round Church, coffee concert (The English Haydn Quartet) and 7.30pm: St Leonard’s, The London Connection (English Haydn Orchestra on period instruments).
Sunday, June 13, 2pm: St Peter’s Church, Worfield, tea concert (Christophe Coin Trio) and 7.30pm, St Leonard’s, memorial concert for musicologist Professor H C Robbins-Landon (English Haydn Orchestra).

The Friends of English Haydn Festival subscriptions contribute to the costs of organising the festival and sponsor individual concerts. The Friends are given the earliest notice of concert dates, programmes and artists, receive a festival leaflet when it is published as well as the occasional newsletters during the year and meet together at annual reception at Bridgnorth in the spring, also attended by sponsors and festival committee members.
