Town pull out of relegation zone

Causeway United 0 Town 0

SIX days of heavily congested fixtures saw a resurgent Town pick up four vital points to pull them 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

Defeat to Coleshill last Thursday was followed by a brilliant home win against Friar’s Lane and a hard fought draw away to sixth placed Causeway United on Wednesday.

Town manager Andy Marlowe said the performance against Causeway was his side’s best of the season and following a positive board meeting he felt the club was beginning to move forward.

“It’s been a good week both on and off the pitch and everyone now feels we can move this club forward,” he said.

“We have had a few players out and called on reserve team players like Karl Griffiths and Adam Moore who have stepped up and performed very, very well. It’s been a very positive week for the club.”

The results have given Town a little breathing space with Shifnal only able to claim a point at away to Kirby Muxloe on Saturday.

Town 3 Friars Lane 2

A Jason Pike brace ensured Town picked took all three points on Saturday, despite being a goal behind with less than one minute on the clock.

The Crown Meadow men put in a fantastically brave performance to record their fourth home win of the season, despite going behind to a Lewis Gibbons effort early on.

Friar’s lead was short lived as Pike slotted the ball home from the penalty spot after nine minutes and Zak Jackson put the home side 2-1 up, before Gibbons again found the back of the net ensuring the sides went into the break level.

A nervous second half saw the game settled when Pike was put through, finishing with a clinical right foot shot.

Town travel to Oadby Town tomorrow and then to Biddulph Victoria, who lie one place above them, on Tuesday, at 7.45pm.
