COUNCILLORS are being urged to back plans to bring in 30mph speed limits through two villages near Bridgnorth, despite reservations from West Mercia Police.
Shropshire Council’s south planning committee will be recommended to support the proposals for Neenton and Brockton when they meet on Tuesday.
Hugh Dannatt, Shropshire Council’s group manager for traffic and highways engineering, says that in both cases West Mercia Police have not formally objected, but are unable to support the limits without traffic calming measures.
He reports that both villages meet the criteria for the limits after averages speeds of 32.9mph and 35.9mph were recorded on the B4364 through Neenton and 37.6mph and 38.2mph through Brockton on the B4378. Mr Dannatt says that the speed limits will cut the likelihood and severity of accidents leading to a reduction in the cost of police time.
Brian Tarr, a resident from Dawley, Telford, has objected to both proposals, claiming that both Brockton and Neenton do not qualify as villages under Department of Transport guidelines.
