FACEBOOK played Cupid for two shy Bridgnorth people who have found love thanks to an online campaign. When matchmaker Karl Richards set up a page on the social networking site called “Patrick Tighe and Louise Ann Dyke should be together” it was to encourage his shy friends to meet up before Valentine’s Day.
And after 250 people joined the page in two weeks the pair finally agreed to get together last Friday evening.
“Meeting on Friday was fantastic and we have both agreed we’re going to make a go of it,” said Louise. “The promoting worked; it gave us both a push in the right direction. I’m just so happy at the moment – I’m on cloud nine!
“I have liked him for three years and we have been in contact on Facebook for the last year, but we’re both stubborn, shy and set in our own ways. I’m a bit shocked about it all, but I’m glad it’s worked. All my friends pulled out the stops to keep the messages going.
“We knew we’d have to do something once the page hit the 200 mark!”
Louise said her only regret about the whole “strange” situation was not finding the courage to meet Patrick earlier. But with their first meeting over the happy couple are already looking ahead to the future.
“Now I’ve got him, I’m not letting him go, and he said the same about me,” she said. “There are 252 members now, which is really strange. We have to thank the two Karls – Shelton and Richards – Hilary Tyler, Vicky Taylor and Patrick’s brother Stuart. I would like to add that if anyone else knows of someone in a similar situation to just go for it because it worked for us.”
Patrick’s brother Stuart said everyone had willed the Facebook page to work. “They have always flirted with each other on Facebook, so a Facebook group was started by Patrick’s friend Karl,” he said.“We all hoped it would give them the push they needed to get together.”
