National acclaim for big breakfast

A Cleobury Mortimer cafe has become a national food lovers’ favourite with its own social networking page and fans travelling from Edinburgh to sample its famous breakfasts.

Several new jobs have also been created in the 12 months since the Cleobury Cafe opened its doors to hungry customers. The eaterie, run by husband and wife team Ashley and Estelle Pugh, opened just before Christmas in 2008 and following a five figure investment in fixtures and fittings it now employs 10 people.

Customers travel from Scotland and there’s a regular clientele who drive in from the West Midlands to munch their way through the cafe’s London House Triple Belt Buster Breakfast – which is one of the biggest breakfasts in Shropshire.

It includes three slices of bacon, triple eggs, three sausages, a trio of tomatoes and slices of toast, black pudding, beans and mushrooms with unlimited tea or coffee.

Determined

Mrs Pugh said: “We have people travelling from the West Midlands for a weekend treat. There were bikers in every Sunday morning during the summer, but now the weather’s changed they travel here in their cars.

“We’ve got one couple who come down from Edinburgh visiting family and they bring their grandchildren in for a feed every trip,” she added. “The cafe fits in with the town and what goes on here,” said Mrs Pugh.

Her husband said the couple were determined to succeed with the venture. “I like coming in, seeing people eating the food and enjoying it,” he said.

The Cleobury Cafe even has its own Facebook social network site on www.facebook.com/cleocafe.

“My nephew set up the site for us and we have some really good comments on there,” said Mrs Pugh.
