FREEZING conditions continue to blight the Midland Alliance league with not a single ball being kicked over the weekend. Bridgnorth Town manager Andy Marlowe said it had been a strangely quiet start to the new year but with everyone currently in the same boat he felt no one was gaining an advantage.
“The game was called off Friday night and the weather looks like its getting worse – I’ve never known anything like it,” he said. “Snow is forecast again but even if it doesn’t snow the pitch could still be frozen solid, or if the snow melts the pitch will probably be waterlogged. Every game in the league was called off again so everyone’s in the same boat.”
With players returning from injury following the lack of matches Marlowe said he would not be going into the transfer market before weighing up the strength of his squad.
“We’ve still got George Williams to come back from injury and of course Zak Jackson and Jason Pike are still waiting to see off their one game bans,” he said. “We’ll give it a couple of games before we think about making any changes.”
Marlowe said the squad had been keeping fit by taking part in boxercise classes and circuit training for the last month, but added the whole squad was now raring to go.
“Our next game is supposed to be away to Malvern, but as the pitch is up on a hill, I can’t see it going ahead at the moment.”
Town are due to travel to third from bottom Malvern Town tomorrow, who are just three points behind Bridgnorth. Their next scheduled home match is a tough fixture against fourth placed Alvechurch on Saturday January 23. Bridgnorth’s last competitive match was against a 2-1 league defeat away to Stratford Town on December 12.
Town’s rearranged fixtures following a month of postponements are: Malvern Town away tomorrow, 3pm; Studley at home on Wednesday, at 7,45pm; Alvechurch at home on Saturday January 23, at 3pm; Coleshill Town away on Saturday January 30, at 3pm; Biddulph Victoria at home on Wednesday February 3, at 7.45pm.
