Table tennis team go for hat-trick

BRIDGNORTH A are currently at the top of the first division of the Telford Table Tennis League first division and have yet to lose a game, as they bid to win the title for the third consecutive year.

Their leading individual players are county stars Billy Pegg and Joe Hurdley - Pegg having won all 21 of his games so far this season and Hurdley 17 out of 18.

“It would be a brave man who would bet against them winning the league this year,” said league chairman Roger Kemp.“Perhaps of greater interest in the top of the table fight is speculating on whether any of the lower teams are good enough to take second place away from Albrighton A,” he a dded.

Albrighton C, who were relegated from the first division last year, are chasing leaders Lilleshall B at the top of division two. And in division three, Highley A and B are second and third respectively.

Meanwhile, a young Bridgnorth table tennis player has won a top award for his good all-round qualities of skill and sportsmanship.

The Tony Evans Trophy – in memory of the former Broseley player – was presented to Zak Chambers by former European champion John Hilton at the Telford Table Tennis Association’s 40th anniversary event at Lilleshall. League officials have congratulated Zak and said it will be interesting to see how his game develops.

The league has also congratulated Highley B’s Alex Pallett for winning a signed England TTA team shirt at the Lilleshall event.
