Victory eludes Town

TOWN manager Andy Marlowe is refusing to be downbeat despite seeing his side pick up just two points from their last nine games. The Crown Meadow men appear to be slipping dangerously close to relegation zone, which has forced Marlowe to look to his more experienced players to stop the rot.

“The young lads have played really well this season, but it’s a new league and they’ve played a lot of football,” he said. “That’s why I’m starting to play myself, assistant manager Kevin Thompson and Steve Broome, just give the side a bit more balance.

“We’ve also got Dominic Heath coming back and our new signing Craig Forbes from Bewdley Town played really well. “The table doesn’t lie though and we’ve got to admit we’re in a relegation fight at the moment, but with the talent I’ve got in the squad I have absolutely no doubt we’ll be out of it in the next few months.”

Causeway United 1 Town 2

A rearranged fixture saw Town lose their second game in four days, despite showing signs of improvement. The home side took the lead on 33 minutes when a low and powerful shot evaded everyone and nestled in the back of the net.

Bridgnorth responded in emphatic fashion five mi nutes later when player-manager Marlowe drifted a ball onto the head of Zac Jackson, who powered the ball home for his fourth goal in five games. Just as the game seemed to be turning in Town’s favour the referee failed to spot a blatant dive in the box.

Instead of booking the Causeway player the official pointed to the spot to give Causeway a 2-1 half time lead, which enough to condemn Town to another defeat. Town will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they welcome Rocester to Crown Meadow tomorrow.

Town 1 Highgate 3

DESPITE a fifth minute goal from Zak Jackson, Town crashed to their sixth home defeat of the season against bottom but one side Highgate United in an all important six pointer.

The Town faithful were rewarded with their ninth home goal of the season after five minutes when a Jason Pike corner ball found Jackson who made no mistake heading home.

But the visitors, boosted by recent signing Sebastian Hamliton from Romulus, soon settled down and by the first quarter had Town on the backfoot. It was no surprise when the visitors levelled on 22 minutes when Hamilton turned a Town defender to fire into the net.

The second half saw Jason Pike’s free kick tipped over by United ‘keeper Perry Cox with Gareth Horler also going close. But Hamliton put the game to bed in the final minute by celebrating his hat-trick.
