FOUR straight defeats has forced Town manager Andy Marlowe to look elsewhere for more experienced players to strengthen his wafer thin squad.
A 6-0 hammering on Saturday – against arguably the best team in the league – followed by another cup exit means Bridgnorth will now be able to concentrate on improving on their current 17th place position in the Midland Alliance League.
“We’ll be looking to make three or four seven-day approaches for players over the next few weeks and I’m hoping to get at least two,” said Marlowe. “Once we’ve got our first team players back we will be stronger but in the meantime we’ve just got to keep plugging away.
“We played seven reserve team players against Darlaston on Tuesday so it’s good these young, local players are getting some first team action. But we’re in a bit of precarious position in the league at the moment so we need to start pulling together to pick up some points.”
Darlaston 1 Town 1
(Darlaston won 4-2 on penalties)
WITH the game being played on a sloping pitch the difficult conditions were always going to ensure the young visitors endured a tough match.
But Bridgnorth – made up mostly of reserve team players – started well and continued to pressure the home side through out the 90 minutes.
A Bridgnorth strike from reserve team captain Lee Williams was enough to take the game to penalties, but Town’s inexperience eventually showed through as they lost 4-2, sending them out of the Walsall Senior Cup.
Coalville Town 6 Town 0
TOWN were soundly beaten on Saturday by a team who look destined for promotion out of the Midland Alliance League. And the fact visiting ‘keeper Steve Taylor was awarded man-of-the-match despite conceding six goals perhaps said it all.
Manager Andy Marlowe said the home side’s passing and movement was the best his squad had come up against and for the neutral fans among the attendance of 97 it was entertaining stuff.
Coalville took the lead with their third attack of the game in the fourth minute when Martin Thompson was given enough room to head home.
Seven minutes later Coalville doubled their lead when a Jermaine Go rdon through ball found Anthony Carley who outpaced Dave Howells and squeezed the ball passed Taylor from what appeared to be an impossible angle.
Town were three down on the half hour mark when a loose ball again fell to the unstoppable Carley who slotted the ball into the top left hand corner.
A half time drumming down from Marlowe saw Town come out with more fight in the second half, but the Crown Meadow men still found themselves four down on 61 minutes when a short corner by Hodgkinson was played to Cameron, who fired the ball into a packed Town box only for Thompson to deflect in his second goal of the game.
With 10 minutes remaining gordon was finally rewarded for all his hard work grabbing Coalville’s fifth and to rub salt in the wounds another Coalville short corner with three minutes remaining was played to Cameron who found Hodgkinson in space for who for goal number six.
Bridgnorth will be hoping for their first points since October 13 when they welcome Oadby Town to Crown Meadow tomorrow, for a 3pm kick-off.
