HARLEY Bank, on the A458 Bridgnorth-Shrewsbury road near Much Wenlock, is to be closed for five successive Sunday mornings while permanent rock stabilisation work is carried out.
The work will start on Monday and take six weeks and will largely be carried out under the current temporary traffic signals. The road will be closed on Sunday mornings only from 6am until noon on November 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 and December 6 while heavy equipment is brought in and rock removed.
During the road closures traffic will be diverted north on the A458 to Cressage, southeast on the B4380 to Eaton Constantine and Buildwas, southwest on the A4169 to Much Wenlock and vice versa.
Councillor Milner Whiteman, Shropshire Councillor for Much Wenlock, said: “I am sorry the one way system has lasted so long, but officers were careful to point out to me that they wanted to make sure they had got it right before this work started.
“I also understand that they have to give notice to the Health and Safety Executive.
“ I am pleased that the road will only need to be closed completely on the Sunday mornings while the job is being carried out. We would like to thank motorists for their patience and ask them to bear with us during these essential works,” said Councillor David Roberts, Shropshire Council’s cabinet member for the environment and economy.
“The six road closures are necessary to ensure the safety of our workforce and motorists. However our officers will be working to reopen the road as soon as possible,” he added.
