THE 63 Bridgnorth Squadron Air Training Corps marching band will be making history when it performs at both Disney World and Sea World in Florida.
The band is flying out to America tomorrow night bound for the Macdill Air Force base in Tampa Bay. Bandmaster, Corporal Mick Briggs, said they would be the UK’s first marching band to perform at Disney World and also the first band of any kind from Britain to play at Sea World.
“It is an incredible achievement to be invited to perform at these world famous parks,” said Corporal Briggs. “I am very proud of all the cadets and I’m positive they will all do the country proud.”
Bridgnorth mayor and mayoress Councillor Mac Griffiths and his wife Julie visited the cadets last week to wish them luck and said the town was extremely proud of their achievements and urged them to enjoy the “wonderful opportunity”.
The cadets will be the guests of the United States Air Force for the 10 days of the trip, visiting different sections of the active air base and meeting their American counterparts of the 89th Macdill Civil Air Patrol Squadron.
A substantial amount of funds have been raised to make the trip a reality and the Officer Commanding Flight Lieutenant Su Briggs said: “It is with great thanks to all who have helped to make this opportunity a reality, we couldn’t have made it possible for the cadets without the support of the town.”
She particularly thanked Bridgnorth Town Council, The Comrades Club, the Lions, the Buffs, The Glades, Grainger & Worrall Ltd, Design Jazz, Graham Hill Flooring and a special thanks to Kirsty and Ashley Brookes and The Tribe. The squadron has reached the Corps National Band Championships in November for the second year in a row.
