Teenager honoured

A 17-year-old from Bridgnorth who battled to save a friend’s life when a camping trip turned to tragedy will be honoured next week.

Philip West is one of 12 young people nominated for a West Mercia Police Good Citizen of the Year award. He was nominated by detectives Philip Nock and Jessica Hindley after the incident on April 6 this year, when a group of youngsters were socialising in caves at the Hermitage when a rock fall killed one of his best friends, Aiden Brookes.

Philip was nominated for having helped pull another friend from the cave who had also been struck by the falling rocks, and going to the aid of Aiden.

Officers were impressed by his courage and clear thinking. The awards ceremony takes place on Thursday  in Worcester.
