Appeal after sixth rider dies

ANOTHER motorcyclist has died in a collision on Bridgnorth’s road – the sixth so far this year. A second rider was airlifted to hospital after a separate crash on the same day.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the fatal crash between a green Kawasaki motorbike and a blue Honda CR-V car on the A442 at Quatford at around 4.45pm on Sunday.

The rider of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. He was later named by police as Andrew John Mason, aged 46, of Fordhouses, Wolverhampton.

The occupants of the car were not injured but left shaken by the incident.

PC Tim Street, who is investigating the circumstances of the collision, said the area was busy at the time and a number of witnesses had already come forward.

“Although we have already spoken to some people who saw what happened, we believe there will have been others who would have seen the crash or either vehicle immediately beforehand,” he said. “If anybody has information which might help our investigation, we would urge them to contact the police.”

The road was closed until after 9pm while police collision investigators worked and the vehicles involved were recovered.

The coroner for South Shropshire, Mr Anthony Sibcy, has been informed and a post mortem examination and inquest was expected to be opened this week. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police on 0300 333 3000.

Meanwhile a second motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital following a collision with a car in Church Lane, Tasley. West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the scene shortly after 2.15pm on Sunday. An ambulance crew and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham attended.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The motorcyclist, who is in his late teens, had been involved in a collision with a car.

“Crews assessed him at the scene and found him to have minor injuries. He was flown to New Cross Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
