A former Oldbury Wells School student has thrashed the Aussies – to become world pea-shooting champion.
Jim Collins, 34, who entered the competition for fun, was also a pupil at Claverley Primary School and obtained a degree in biology at the University of St Andrews.
His parents, Geoff and Val Collins, who live in Claverley, said they were very proud of their son.
Jim, who now lives at Hadenham in Cambridgeshire, was up against entrants from as far away as Australia, the USA and New Zealand as well as others with hi-tech laser-guided shooters.
“It was definitely beginner’s luck,” said Jim, who was also a junior member of Bridgnorth Golf Club and Claverley Cricket Club. “I’m surprised to win, but very happy.”
Competitors puff ‘peas’ – which are actually dried maple seeds – from 12 feet at a 12-inch target.
