Everyone who swam an individual race got vital points for Northgate. Alex Barker, Alice Breese, Emily Jane Davies, Emily Rutter, Fern Cates, Hannah Blakstad, James Warrington, Megan Bowdler, Naomi Goss and Tegan Humphries all did well in their events.
In the relay races, which are at the start and end of the evening, there were second place finishes for the boys open relay team in both the medley and freestyle relays.
There were top four finishes by the boys 10 and under and 12 and under medley teams, the 12 and under freestyle team and both the 14 and under medley and freestyle teams. The girls 10 and under and open freestyle teams also got a top four place.
The club needs to take a strong squad and Amy Simmons, Georgina Jones, Heather Ross, James Morgan, Joey Ellis Perks, Josh Davies, Lucy Turner, Matthew Griffiths, Molly Craven and Peter Bills Brown all did very well in their swims on the night.
The gala is a mixture of single swimmer and team events in four age groups and an open category which is for all ages. Overall, Northgate got top three finishes in a quarter of the evening’s events and top four finishes in two thirds of the 50 races.
This resulted in the Bridgnorth club getting a commendable fourth place out of six teams to round off a thoroughly enjoyable evening of racing for the swimmers and their supporters.
The third and final Mercian League fixture is this Saturday at Bromsgrove. Northgate will be swimming against Blyth Barracudas, Boldmere, Brierley Hill, Fox Hollies and Lichfield and their performance will determine the club’s final placing for the season in this league.
