Philip West, 17, was presented with a West Mercia Police Good Citizen certificate and lapel badge at The Lord Hill Hotel in Shrewsbury.
Phil, who lives in Bridgnorth, was nominated by Police Constables Phillip Nock and Jessica Hindley, following the tragedy at the Hermitage Caves involving 16-year-old Aiden Brookes.
A police spokesman said that Phil had helped to pull another friend from the caves, who had also been struck by rocks, before going to help Aiden, who also went to Oldbury Wells.
“When paramedics arrived he volunteered to carry out chest compressions, while they carried out other life-saving procedures.
“Officers were impressed by his courage and clear thinking despite the tragedy,” added the spokesman.
Phil was among 16 young people from across the county to be nominated this year for acts of generosity, displays of community spirit or acts of outstanding courage.
Four nominations will be selected to go forward to the final in October and be in with a chance of being named Good Citizen of the Year 2009.
This honour will be presented at a gala awards evening at the force headquarters at Hindlip Hall to be hosted by Chief Constable Paul West.
