It completed a positive weekend for Quatt who enjoyed a winning Marstons Shropshire Premier League draw against Albrighton at the Oval in Saturday’s top of the table clash as both sides looked to gain ground on Reman Services and Oswestry.
Quatt skipper Adrian Evans won the toss on Saturday and elected to bat first. Both openers went early and it was left to Dean Robinson (24) and Adrian Evans to take up the mantle as they added 57 for the third wicket before Robinson was out leaving Quatt in a spot of bother at 79-4.
However, Dave Street showed class and experience forming a partnership of 97 with Evans before being caught on the boundary for a superbly constructed 55.
Openers Adrian Evans went on to make a superb 80 and Craig Harris showed good signs of form making 28 from just 18 deliveries and helping Quatt post a competitive 218-6 from their 50 overs.
The start of the Albrighton innings almost mirrored that of Quatt’s with both openers falling cheaply and it was left to Ian Bissell (30) and Nick Archibald (54) to steady the ship taking the score onto 61 before the in form Jimmy Arbuckle had Bissell caught at slip.
Jimmy Arbuckle (5-57) was now bowling with confidence and backed by some some superb fielding the visitors found themselves in trouble at 125-5.
It was now a case of whether Albrighton could be bowled out and for the first time in his Quatt career Kiwi Dean Robinson came on to bowl and immediately began to cause problems for the batsmen. However, despite a couple of difficult chances going down he would remain wicketless but there were positive signs for the future.
Albrighton managed to hold out for a draw and in doing so ensured 11 points to Qcc’s 17. Qcc 218-6 Albrighton 175-8.
Quatt 223-3 Walton on Trent 173-9
THE home side won the toss in Sunday’s cup tie and inserted Quatt. Adam Evans (23) batted well at the top of the innings, putting on 57 with Craig Jones for the second wicket before he was caught .
This left the score at 72-2 but when the in-form Adrian Evans was bowled by a ball that stayed low, Quatt were rocked at 97-3. However, this brought Craig Harris to the crease and he set about the Derbyshire side’s bowling from the outset, smashing the ball to all corners of the ground .
Craig Jones made a superb 54 and Harris would go onto to make 81 from 57 balls which included a couple of huge sixes. Quatt eventually posted 223-6 from the allotted 40 overs.
Quatt piled on the pressure at the beginning of Walton’s innings and took three early wickets with all three batsmen dismissed for a duck.
Walton needed to rebuild and this they did with Preston and Wilson taking the score to 93 before the former was caught by on the boundary for 51.
Wilson was soon to follow bowled by Craig Jones and by now the task was looking to much for the home side.
Javid Oomer looked dangerous but when he was unluckily run out at the non strikers end the game was won and Quatt were through to the last 16 for the second consecutive season. Barry Jones and Jimmy Arbuckle took three wickets a piece.
