ABOUT 300 former airmen and women who served at Bridgnorth’s former RAF base will be returning to the town next month to mark the 70th anniversary of the opening of the camp.
The weekend’s celebrations, being organised by 63 Bridgnorth Air Training Corps bandmaster Corporal Mick Briggs for August 8 and 9, is being partly funded by the town council.
It will include a parade on the Sunday, led by the ATC band which will start at Northgate at 10am and move down the High Street and up to St Mary’s Church for a special service.
Following the parade, tea and biscuits for the ex-service personnel will be served at the Castle Hall.
On the previous evening there will be a reunion with food laid on at the Low Town Community Hall (6-10pm). Former airmen and women who wish to attend can obtain tickets for £7.50 each by contacting Briggs by emailing michael.063@btinternet.com.
