The first of these, to be released next week in the Bridgnorth Journal, will involve the High Rock and Hermitage walks and include details about a footbridge link between the two, spanning the Wolverhampton road.
“A number of these proposals will be schemes that have been suggested in the past, either by interested pressure groups, or by ‘design studies’ commissioned by previous district and town councils,” explained society chairman Michael Rainsford.
“None of our proposals will have been discussed with any statutory authority, nor with any council official or landowner – they are presented solely to generate public debate and comment.
“If the schemes are favourably received by Journal readers and local residents, then the civic society would develop them further with a view to getting them included in the town’s long-term ‘Future Development Plan.’ We appreciate that four of our proposals involve major expenditure and will take years to implement.
“But we do believe that if the town council adopt a long-term investment strategy and again take control of their own ‘maintenance’ and ‘tourist’ budgets and they, rather than a distant authority or local action groups deal with the outside funding bodies, then there is every chance that these schemes could be implemented, and our position as one of the Midland’s major tourist centres would be enhanced and safeguarded,” he added.
