Joseph, 13, puts Welshmen in a spin

They lost three early wickets and were struggling at 50-3, but a 62 run fourth wicket stand between Lanchbury and Mani Singh moved the score to 112 before Lanchbury was needlessly run out for 21.

Singh was in awesome form, finding the gaps and punishing the bad ball. He was joined by James Parker, and between them they took the game away from Llani in the next 15 overs with an unbroken 101 partnership.

Parker supported the imperious Singh beautifully making 38 not out, including two huge sixes. Singh finished with his highest score for Worfield – 132 not out – and to be honest this could be classed as his finest innings to date on what was becoming a very difficult track to bat on.

Worfield finished their allotted 50 overs with a competitive 242-5. Joe Pritchard was the pick of the Llani attack taking 3-61.

In reply Nick Plain and Singh removed the Llani openers inside the first three overs, and after that Llani decided to shut up shop and take an ultra defensive approach. This enabled the Worfield fielders to crowd the bat but wickets were very difficult to come by.

It was in fact the 20th over before Worfield took the third wicket when Will Weir bowled Goodman for 29. Weir soon doubled his tally, bowling Simon Jones.

The draw was still looking the most likely result as Worfield still needed six wickets in the 20 overs remaining, but the game was about to be turned on its head!

Joseph Arnold a 13-year-old left arm spin bowler who plays for Shropshire, who were without a game, was brought in as a late replacement for Matt Turner. Within two balls he had trapped the wall-like R Jones for 44, and that was the only the start of things to come as Arnold bowled beautifully with flight and variation beyond his young years.

The Llanidloes tail capitulated and despite a late cameo from skipper Rob Jones (26) Llani were bowled out for 162 in the 42nd over.

Arnold finished with the magnificent figures of 4-23 from seven overs.
