Josh Corke, 15, who plays off a handicap of 27, won the Captain’s Day Prize with 55 points. Josh is now the proud owner of a golf bag and T-shirt signed by golfing legend Greg Norman, who sponsored the day’s competition.
His father Roger also plays at Worfield and his mother Kathy said that she and her husband were very proud of Josh. “It was his first win in a competition,” she said. “He has been a member at Worfield for about four years, but has been interested in golf since the age of two when he was given a plastic set of clubs.”
Sue Holmyard has won the Linda Marklew Trophy for Bridgnorth Golf Club ladies’ section members with 41 points, while runner-up was Dianne Williams with 36. Vivien Catterall lifted the Gilbert Blundell Trophy for a nett score of 71 (89-18), ahead of second-placed Marilyn Davies, nett 73 (87-14).
The Edna Boud Brooch was won by Mel Wilson with 40 points, while second place went to Dianne Williams with 36 after a play-off. Bridget Kemp and Rose Maiklem won the Ping Fourball Betterball competition with 41 points, with Marilyn Davies and Julia Wrigglesworth second on 39.
