Rugby honour for Bert

Bridgnorth stalwart Bert Greaves, who lives at Worfield, where he was the local policeman, will be honoured at the dinner after being elected as the president.

Greaves is well known in county rugby circles and as a past county and Bridgnorth player, where he maintains strong connections with the ‘All Blacks.’ The dinner will also help raise funds for the county RFU.

“Shropshire men are notoriously modest,” said Bridgnorth spokesman Bob Turner. “We have produced some famous heroes and some momentous discoveries and although the Tourist Agencies try hard Shropshire is still one of England’s best kept secrets.

“The county, completely amateur of course, raises money from this venture and from its small band of county members to keep up with its larger rivals, with its main aim of starting some of its young talented players on their way to greater sporting achievements.

“Next year Shropshire RFU is 50 years old and any Bridgnorth player who has represented the county over the years please contact us to ensure our records are complete
