The 2009 campaign has got off to a superb start for the Cricket Meadow men, who currently lie in second place in the third division.
“We really are going great guns and the team is a joy to captain,” said skipper Mark MacPherson-Lees. “Everybody is doing really well in a tough league which has a lot of good players.
“We have got a young team, many of whom played first team cricket before this season and it is not a one-man team, with Tom Whitney, Tom Weaver, Pete Thompson and Jono Whitney among those who have produced some match-winning performances.”
Shropshire county player Jono Whitney has returned to Bridgnorth after a spell with neighbours Shifnal, while one of the few ‘outsiders’ is newcomer Dave Exall, an all-rounder who has joined from Kington and played for Herefordshire.
“We believe we got a very good side,” added MacPherson-Lees.”We have got great team spirit and our aim is to get promoted.”
The side were left kicking their heels at the weekend as the entire league programme was washed out without a ball being bowled. They hope to return to action at home to Coleshill tomorrow.
The other Bridgnorth sides were also thwarted by the bad weather, with the second and third team Saturday fixtures and the Sunday games all called off.
