‘Tribe’ remembers tragic teen

THE biggest team in the Bridgnorth Journal Sponsored Walk will be stepping it out in tribute to a popular teenager who tragically lost his life last month when a sandstone cave collapsed on top of him.

The 80-strong  team, ‘The Tribe’, will be remembering 16-year-old Aiden Brookes, when they step it out on Spring Bank Holiday Monday, May 25 in aid of 63 (Bridgnorth) Air Training Squadron.

Aidan, of Paulbrook Road, was killed in the early hours of April 6 while he was camping at the Hermitage Caves. He was a corporal with the ATC and was due to represent the UK at Disney World later this year, as well as being a keen cricketer and rugby player.

Walk entries organiser Peter Davison said the team had been got together by his Oldbury Wells School colleague and friend Alex Williams. “The Tribe is the biggest team in the Walk by quite a way,” explained Mr Davison.

Entries for the 43rd annual Walk close today with numbers for the senior 22-mile trek from Bridgnorth to the top of the Brown Clee and back close to the 1,200 limit.

“We have had 1,130 entries from 90 teams so far,” said Mr Davison. “We have also had 230 junior entries who will be walking seven miles from Ditton Priors playing fields to the top of the Brown Clee and back.”

Due to unforseen circumstances, there will be no toilet facilities this year until walkers reach Ditton Priors.
