IF Broseley has official town colours then they must surely be shades of buff, judging by the willingness of its residents to bare all for a good cause.
Last year’s WI style ‘art calendar’ featured 13 of the town’s citizens discreetly captured on film in their birthday suits – except for a few strategically positioned props.
Modelled on the original WI calendar which inspired the blockbuster film Calendar Girls, the collection of semi-nude portraits by local photographer Angela Brickley drew much admiration from the public – and offers from still more would-be models.
The calendar, created to help raise funds for the Broseley Christmas Lights Appeal, went down a storm and had to be reprinted to cope with demand.
Angela has already started staging photoshoots in preparation for the 2010 calendar, which looks set to be every bit as popular as the Mark I version.
Jean Jones, Secretary of the Broseley Christmas Lights Committee, said there was “no shortage” of volunteers for the cheeky fundraiser.
Dave Wallace, committee chairman, said the first calendar had received “a marvellous response”.
“Despite my fears –I was a little nervous in case it looked grubby – the calendar was excellent and very tasteful, no doubt due to Angela’s standard of photography.
“I think it encouraged more local groups to do a similar thing, although I don’t think any of them bettered the calendar we produced.”
