Journal story inspires reunion

DESCENDANTS of a family who worked as blacksmiths in Chorley for many generations will be gathering in the village tomorrow.

Relatives from as far away as Spain and France will be among more than 60 people who will converge on the Ducks Inn to honour the memory of the Musgroves.

The get-together is the idea of the oldest surviving grandchild of Alfred and Alice Musgrove 90-year-old Harry Broome, who lives at Cheddar in Somerset. Harry sparked off the gathering after reading memories of the Musgroves in an old Journal article.

The three other surviving grandchildren Edwina Guest who lives in Kinlet, Florence Winwood from Bridgnorth and Sheila Gammon, who lives near Worthing, are also expected to make the trip.

Mrs Gammon’s son, Mark Cohen, will be travelling from his home in Spain, when the family plan to have on display artefacts about the Musgroves.

“We have booked the Ducks for five hours and so there will be a lot to talk about,” said Mrs Gammon. “We are all looking forward to it.”
