Skate park plan moves forward

MOVES to upgrade facilities on Bridgnorth¹s Crown Meadow playing fields have taken an important step forward with backing for a skateboard park and BMX track.

Members of the nearby Innage Youth Centre have been consulting town councillors and have given them a presentation about their proposals. And now mayor, Councillor Brian Jones, has revealed that the plans have won backing from the National Playing Fields Association.

The council will now be fully consulting with neighbours and it is expected that planning permission will be sought if the budget allows.

There are also hopes that play equipment will be improved following a positive survey organised by local campaigner and mum Vanessa Voysey.

Mrs Voysey has been concerned about the condition of the play equipment and that there is nothing on the site for children aged over seven.

“The results of the survey confirmed what I suspected from discussions with other parents,” she said. “Everyone felt that we need more play equipment.

“It was also felt that we need something for the eight to 11 age group, which makes life difficult if you have children of different ages.”

“The overall feeling was that there is too little equipment for the area and that the facility isn¹t being used to its best potential.”

Dog mess was also perceived to be a real problem.

“Local childminders also commented that the area does not have enough suitable play equipment,” added Mrs Voysey. “Severn Park is a better area, but it is too far to walk to safely.”

She has forwarded the results of the survey to the town council and received a positive response.”It seems that grant money may be available shortly,” she said. “If all goes well the council will be looking at the situation in more detail in April or May.”

The mayor confirmed that the council would be examining the position with a view to upgrading the play facilities.

“The dog mess is a perennial problem,” added the mayor. “People should look after their animals and be more responsible there are dog bins provided.”
