Police find body

A body has been found in undergrowth close to the River Severn near Bridgnorth.

“Police were called to the River Severn near Eardington just before 2pm on Tuesday following reports that a body had been found,” police spokesperson Maria Hawkaluk said.

“Officers found what was confirmed to be a body in vegetation at the river bank,” she said. “It was removed yesterday evening and the incident is being treated as an unexplained death at this stage.

“The body has not yet been identified and the coroner for south Shropshire Anthony Sibcy has been informed.

“A report will be prepared for him and an inquest will be opened in due course.

“A post mortem is due to take place on Tuesday and will be carried out by a Home Office pathologist. At this stage it has not been confirmed whether the body is that of a man or a woman, but it’s thought to have been there for some time.”
