‘Affordable’ homes boost

A desperately-needed boost in the number of affordable homes in Bridgnorth has just been announced by the Telford-based Wrekin Housing Trust.

The trust will soon be providing nearly 50 new homes in the Tasley area of town as part of their work to meet the need for affordable housing across Shropshire.

It has now exchanged contracts for the site at Wenlock Road, where five homes are already available and 43 more are due to be ready in stages from May to November this year.

The properties will be a mixture of two bed apartments and two and three bed houses on the Persimmon Homes development, where house prices have fallen dramatically in the past few months.

The trust acquired the stock from Persimmon after putting in a bid under Section 106 as per the Town Planning Act.

The affordable homes are being made available to applicants with a local connection to Bridgnorth as defined in the Local Lettings Plan, and the trust is working closely with Bridgnorth District Council to find prospective tenants and buyers.

The new homes that are available for rent will be advertised as they become available through the trust’s lettings system, ‘chooseyourhome’, which allows prospective tenants to view properties that are available each week and choose the ones that they are most interested in.

There will also be a selection of shared ownership homes available, with the option to rent before buying, helping people who may not otherwise be able to get onto the property ladder.

The Wrekin Housing Trust can be contacted on (01952) 217100 or you can view more information on developments and shared ownership properties available at www.wrekinhousingtrust.org.uk
