SAINSBURY’S are to be asked to have a rethink on plans for a DIY and garden centre at Bridgnorth.
An application for the design and outside appearance of the proposed outlets on the Old Smithfield were deferred by district councillors on Monday.
Members of the development control committee heard that conservation officer Sarah Lowe had described the overall design as like a warehouse or factory building and that it would be alien to the character and appearance of the area.
Negotiations
Trevor Tarran, the council’s director of development control, reported that some improvements had been made to an original scheme, but there were inconsistencies that needed further clarification before permission is given.
“We felt that the basic design concept was inappropriate to the area,” said committee chairman Councillor Elizabeth Yeomans.
“We felt the wall features and other items needed looking at,” she added. “We deferred the application for negotiations for improvements.”
