Historic loco steams in for fair

‘CATCH Me Who Can’ will be making an appearance at a winter fair to be held in Bridgnorth’s High Street next month.

The full-size working replica of the world famous locomotive  will be in steam on Sunday December 7.

“The Trevithick 200 trustees will be on hand to answer questions about the engine and to sell their merchandise,” said Trevithick 200 secretary Brian Davies.

The replica of the world’s first steam locomotive — made at Hazeldine Foundry in Low Town in 1808 — made its debut appearance at a steam rally held in the summer to mark the bicentennary of its construction.

Four new Trevithick 200 trustees were appointed at the recent AGM of the Bridgnorth charity.

Allan Bellamy, John Price, Charles Lamont and Allan MacKenzie have all been active volunteers during the past year.

The charity’s officers have also seen changes with the election of David Reynolds as the new chairman, Mike Grocock as treasurer and Brian Davies as secretary.

Mr Reynolds acknowledged the work of all those who have worked on ‘Catch Me Who Can’ and at the steam rally in July. He added that a significant amount of work was needed to complete the locomotive, ready for final inspection by the Railway Inspectorate.

But Mr Reynolds said that he was impressed by the way the people of Bridgnorth have supported the project, following the launch on Severn Park.

The Trevithick 200 charity was originally formed last year and has overseen the design and construction of the replica of the famous locomotive.
