“Damage and danger’ on road

Councillor Lee, who represents the Bridgnorth Rural ward on the county authority, added that he intended to meet Shirehall officials at the site when possible improvements to the B4555 at Knowle Sands would also be discussed.

Halfway House Lane has been used as a diversion for the past two months while Severn Trent replace a sewer pipe at Knowle Sands where the road re-opened on Wednesday.

‘Halfway House Lane is a major cause for concern,” said Councillor Lee. “It is in a deplorable state and is not suitable for the volume of traffic using it.”

He wants to see signage directing motorists up the by-pass who wish to travel towards Cleobury and Highley.

“They would then turn left at the roundabout onto the Ludlow road and past the Punch Bowl and turn left at Cross Houses to join the Cleobury road and onto an improved Halfway House Lane,” he explained. “This would also protect Low Town’s infrastructure by preventing heavy lorries going through it.”

Oldbury residents have also highlighted the increase in traffic along the B4363 because of the Knowle Sands work and will be holding a public meeting in the WI Hall tonight (7.30pm) to discuss what can be done through their village.

Severn Trent Water project manager Chris Glen said the delay to re-opening the B4555 had been brought about because of problems in connecting the sewer pipe to existing pipes.

“We appreciate how frustrating road closures are for local residents and drivers and would like to apologise for any inconvenience this has caused. The new sewer pipe will bring long-term benefits to our customers and we are working as quickly and safely as possible to complete the work and re-open the road,” added Mr Glen.
