River body identified

Miss Franks’ death is being treated by police as unexplained. The 40-year-old, of Belle Vue, Shrewsbury, and formerly of Brookside in Telford, disappeared after a night out in Shrewsbury and was last seen just after midnight on October 5.

An inquest was opened at Ludlow by South Shropshire coroner Anthony Sibcy on Friday and has been adjourned to March 5 at Bridgnorth Town Hall (2.30pm).  An exact cause of death has not yet been established.

The mother-of-one, better known in Telford by her married name of Rowland, was identified last Thursday following forensic tests.

The body was located and recovered by the fire service using a boat on the outskirts of Bridgnorth shortly before 11.30am.  Officers attended the area and called for assistance from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Detective Sergeant Chris Hughes, of Shrewsbury CID, said police were still keen to hear from anyone who could help them establish exactly what happened to Miss Franks after she left Montgomery’s Tower pub that night.

“The last confirmed sighting of her was at about 12.05am on the Sunday, when she walked across the road towards the car park,” he said.

“We are still trying to establish exactly what happened after that and where she went before she ended up in the river.

“If you have any information which would help our investigation, then please call us on 08457 444888.”
