Body found in river

SPECULATION was increasing yesterday that a woman whose body was pulled out of the River Severn near Bridgnorth is that of missing Shrewsbury mum Mandy Franks.

The body was spotted floating down stream in the Apley area by a fisherman just after 10am on Monday. Maria Hawkaluk, police spokeswoman, said: “A post mortem was carried out on Tuesday on the body of the woman found in the River Severn, near Bridgnorth.

“The body is yet to be identified and it is still expected to take some time. Once identification has taken place an inquest will be opened by the coroner.”

She added that police were following the line of enquiry that it could be the missing 40-year-old. The examination was carried out at Sandwell Hospital on Tuesday in an attempt to identify the body and determine how she died.

Miss Franks, of Belle Vue, Shrewsbury, was last seen outside the Wetherspoon pub, Montgomery’s Tower, on October 5.
