The money has come from the county council’s community grant scheme launched in the summer. It is aimed at supporting capital projects such as village halls, community buildings, and sports, recreation and arts facilities.
More than 85 applications were received, totalling £2.3 million. Barbara Craig, county council cabinet member for community services, said: “There has been a great response to this scheme and it has been a very difficult job to choose between the applications.
“It is really encouraging to see people getting involved and taking an interest in their local communities.”
Spokesman for the recreation association, Richard Twigg, said that the committee now hoped to build on work already undertaken at the Pavilion, in Alveley.
“We now want to develop the drainage on the playing fields,” he said. “We applied to Sport England and we were successful for the first stage of that, so we thought it would a good idea to apply to the county council as well, as they could see we already had some backing.
“We are now waiting for the paper work to be completed before work can begin on the cricket and football pitches, which will take two to three weeks, but we are still in the early stages.”
Shropshire County Councillor George Lee said: “I visited the field and at the time it was waterlogged, so I had no hesitation in supporting the recommendation.”
Mr Lee also said the money awarded to Quatt would go towards an extension for the village hall, which he believed would benefit the whole community.
A spokesperson for the Red House Committee in Albrighton said the money would be going towards a huge refurbishment project for the whole building, which was pending the sale of the Old School building in the village.
Other recipients are Clee Hill Recreational Facilities (£10,000) and Diddlebury Village Hall (£35,000).
All unsuccessful applicants have been offered help and support in identifying alternative external funding sources to deliver their schemes.
