It will be put towards the ongoing revamp of The Bridge Bar headquarters, located behind the vets in Whitburn Street.
“The money has come at a crucial time for us,” said trust chair Mark Gibbons. “We took the decision to close the bar over the summer, with a view to smartening the place up and carrying out some interior structural work.
“The work is being done mostly voluntarily by the Baptist Church Men’s Group, who seem to have taken our cause to their hearts. A team of them come in every Wednesday night and Saturday morning and get a surprising amount done each time. We have also had support from Jewson in the supply of building materials.
“Our aim is not only to improve the look and feel of the bar for the attendees, but to make it more commercially viable as a venue for meetings, parties and other events. My biggest concern is that there are probably young people and parents in Bridgnorth who still don’t know that the bar exists.
“Once the work is completed we will have a relaunch — possibly with a new name. The bar will be open six days a week, including after-school drop-ins and all-day Saturday sessions, with the popular Friday club night continuing as before.
“I would love representatives from both Bridgnorth secondary schools to have an input into the style, feel and name of the bar. We are inviting anyone interested in the bar to pop in over half term — and maybe even help decorate,” added Mr Gibbons.
